Lontong Sayur

One of my favorite local food/dish is Lontong Sayur or you can call it "lontong in vegetables soup".. My favorite lontong sayur is the one located in Warung Buncit quite near the traffic light. Although lontong sayur is popular as breakfast fare in Jakarta this one open at 8.00 pm and will be closed early in the morning. The price is cheap but it's quite clean and delicious.

What is Lontong Sayur?
It consist of lontong served with sliced labu siam (chayote) and unripe jackfruit gulai in thin and spicy coconut milk soup, topped with cooked tofu and telur pindang (spiced boiled egg), and krupuk crackers.  If ketupat is used in the identical recipe, it is called ketupat sayur instead.

Bubur Ayam

Bubur Ayam is one of the local foods usually served for breakfast. But you can find bubur ayam in the evening. You can easily find bubur ayam served by street vendors, warung (small local shops), fast food restaurants, and even by five-star hotel restaurants.

What is bubur ayam? Bubur ayam is rice congee with shredded chicken meat served with some condiments, such as chopped scallion, crispy fried shallot, celery, tongcay (preserved salted vegetables), fried soybean, Chinese crullers (youtiao, known as cakwe in Indonesia), and both salty and sweet soy sauce, and sometimes topped with yellow chicken broth and kerupuk (Indonesian-style crackers).

If you can't bear spicy food, this dish is fine. Sambal or chili paste is served separately.

When I lived in Central Jakarta I used to eat bubur ayam at Bubur Cikini H.R. Suleman. I used to eat with my friends and ate it in our car. I usually went in the evening after office hour or on Saturday night.

Since now I live in South Jakarta, every time we want to eat bubur ayam we go to Jl. Saharjo. The vendor is in front Suzuki Purna.  Be warned, you need to be there before 8:00am!

Food - Ketoprak

Every time I go to my mom's house, I often try to buy Ketoprak at Jalan Tembaga, Galur, Jakarta Pusat (Central Jakarta).

This ketoprak is delicious. Pak Sabar, the seller/owner, is very generous of pouring the peanut sauce. I think this street food is clean, why? That's because we never have diarrhea after eating his ketoprak ha ha ha....

What is ketoprak anyway?

Ketoprak is a vegetarian dish from Jakarta, Indonesia, consists of tofu, vegetables and rice cake, rice vermicelli served in peanut sauce.

Why is it a vegetarian dish? That's because Ketoprak consists of sliced fried tofu, steamed rice cake (lontong or ketupat), sliced cabbage and cucumber, bihun (thin rice vermicelli), bean sprouts, served in peanut sauce, topped with krupuk and fried shallots. The fried tofu can be considered as the centerpiece of the dish, since it is freshly fried directly after customer placed their order, to ensure its freshness and hotness. The peanut sauce is made from ground peanut and palm sugar made into a thick paste, mixed with garlic, chili pepper, salt and also kecap manis (sweet soy sauce).

Well, I think ketoprak is one of Jakarta's salads

When I googling I found out there is also Ketoprak Pak Edi is delicious. The location is around Pengadilan Negeri, Jakarta Selatan (South Jakarta)

Nasi Uduk

Many foreigners are afraid to eat street food in Indonesia especially in Jakarta where there are many motorcycle and air pollution mixed and attack the food served in the street vendor.

I sometimes try to avoid to buy street food in Jakarta, but I think we should try once in a while street food in Jakarta and other food offered in Jakarta and other cities in Jakarta.

Last Saturday, I tried Nasi Uduk in Jalan Tegal Parang. I found out their nasi uduk is quite good and also quite cheap compared to Nasi Uduk in Jalan Kebon Kacang.

I they also have facebook https://www.facebook.com/NasiUdukTegalParang?fref=nf

Other vendors sell bubur ayam (I haven't tried that). The location is in front of Alfamart, and it's quite clean. Many people go there eat bubur ayam, nasi uduk and lontong sayur.

Nasi uduk literally means "mixed rice" in Betawi dialect, related with Indonesian term aduk ("mix"). The name describes the dish preparation itself which requires more ingredients than common steamed rice cooking and also varieties of additional side dishes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasi_uduk

It has a fragrance aroma and cooked with coconut milk and different kind of herbs and spices. The taste is quite similar to Nasi Lemak in Malaysia, Brunei or Singapore.
