Bubur Ayam

Bubur Ayam is one of the local foods usually served for breakfast. But you can find bubur ayam in the evening. You can easily find bubur ayam served by street vendors, warung (small local shops), fast food restaurants, and even by five-star hotel restaurants.

What is bubur ayam? Bubur ayam is rice congee with shredded chicken meat served with some condiments, such as chopped scallion, crispy fried shallot, celery, tongcay (preserved salted vegetables), fried soybean, Chinese crullers (youtiao, known as cakwe in Indonesia), and both salty and sweet soy sauce, and sometimes topped with yellow chicken broth and kerupuk (Indonesian-style crackers).

If you can't bear spicy food, this dish is fine. Sambal or chili paste is served separately.

When I lived in Central Jakarta I used to eat bubur ayam at Bubur Cikini H.R. Suleman. I used to eat with my friends and ate it in our car. I usually went in the evening after office hour or on Saturday night.

Since now I live in South Jakarta, every time we want to eat bubur ayam we go to Jl. Saharjo. The vendor is in front Suzuki Purna.  Be warned, you need to be there before 8:00am!
